Does Kaspa's mining algorithm have an official name?
Kaspa's original mining algorithm has no official name. According to Ori Newman, the early algorithm was developed in cooperation with a mining company specifically to make it easy for them to build ASICs — it was never formally named. Importantly, that algorithm has no relation to the mining algorithm Kaspa uses today, which is called k-heavyhash. For a beginner, this matters because it explains why you won't find historical references to a named Kaspa mining algorithm — the unnamed early design was replaced by k-heavyhash, which is what miners use now.
