What is the Blue Work metric in Kaspa?
Blue Work is a cumulative security score in Kaspa's GHOSTDAG protocol that counts proof-of-work only from blue blocks — blocks the network has accepted as consensus-valid. In GHOSTDAG, every block is classified as either blue (accepted into consensus) or red (conflicting or excluded). Blue blocks contribute their computational work to the running security total, while red blocks are excluded from this calculation. This selective accumulation ensures that only honest, consensus-valid work counts toward network security, so a malicious actor cannot use conflicting blocks to pad the score even if real mining power went into creating them. For a beginner, this matters because Blue Work gives a trustworthy measure of how much honest computational effort is actually protecting the network.
