What is the Mecenas contract in Kaspa's Silverscript?
The Mecenas contract is a recurring payment covenant built in Silverscript, Kaspa's covenant scripting language. A covenant is a set of rules written directly into the blockchain script that controls exactly how locked funds can be spent. In the Mecenas design, a sender locks funds inside a covenant that allows a recipient to withdraw a fixed amount — but only after a minimum time interval has passed since the last payment. Each time a valid withdrawal happens, the remaining funds automatically move into a new covenant output that carries the same rules forward, so the payment schedule continues indefinitely without any middleman. For a beginner, this means Kaspa's scripting layer can enforce subscription-style or sponsorship payments on-chain — no intermediary, no missed payments, and no way to skip the agreed terms.
